What is Educational Therapy?

What is an Educational Therapist?

An educational therapist is a highly-trained individual who works with struggling learners in a one-on-one or group therapy setting. Educational therapists are specifically equipped with the ability to identify and assess student learning needs. They create and implement individual educational therapy plans utilizing the necessary techniques specific to the learning goals for each student. Therapists are passionate, skilled, relational, and empathetic. They are individuals who want to be a part of unlocking learning potential for their students through an individualized, therapeutic approach. Lastly, an Educational Therapist is a highly trained and credentialed educator who has learned specialized techniques designed to remediate learning disabilities, improve processing, and teach compensatory skills.

Educational Therapists:

  • Work with individuals teaching them how to improve their learning skills
  • Help individuals build their independence as learners
  • Create a caring and trusting rapport with a client’s family as well as with the client
  • Help individuals to build self-confidence
  • Empower individuals and build self-esteem
  • Work with both formal and informal assessments creating intervention plans based on both an individual’s strengths and greatest areas of need.
  • Work with individual clients in a professional/private therapeutic environment
  • Serve as case managers working with other allied professionals, including the classroom teacher to coordinate the needs and progress of an individual client.
  • Help individuals to attain the necessary tools for success to learn across all subject areas
